TRAINING • safety training • orientation classes photos

Several classes are offered and being developed to meet specific industry needs:

  • Special Effects Haz-Mat - for licensing and permitting agencies, as well as Fire Dept. and Law Enforcement
  • Special Effects Primer Course - for directorial and cinematography students
  • Special Effects & Weapons Safety - for actors and stunt persons
  • Firearms Primer Course - an in-depth course for actors requiring this knowledge on a specific production, includes firing range time

If you represent a government, state, or municipal agency which maintains jurisdictional, regulatory, emergency management, or other perfunctory control over motion picture special effects, let us organize and facilitate a training class for your staff. Classroom and in-the-field sessions can be arranged to immerse your staff in the general study of motion picture special effects, and its related safety. We will come to you, all you need to provide is a classroom, and an area where we can safely blow stuff up (usually an EOD or Haz-Mat disposal pit. Training Academy locations may be used as long as no explosions will be demonstrated on-site.).

Subjects covered include safety, types of explosives, types of special effects, and live-demonstrations – though any relative subject matter can be included to custom tailor a class to your specific needs. Classes are specifically designed for Fire and Police Departments, to show what devices are used in this industry, and to provide recognition of safe handling practices. For those agencies managing Homeland Security issues, this class will inform you of the types of explosive devices used in this industry, how they are shipped and stored, and how they are typically handled on a production set.

A complete handbook will be custom made, which will detail different special effects explosive devices, special effects, and their proper integration. We can coordinate with your Fire Code developer to link each special effect to an applicable Fire Code - even help develop code amendments for specific special effects which otherwise might not be adequately covered by existing codes.

Contact CFX to discuss your needs.
